The view from the attic is beautiful. I see lovely old houses made to last. There are trees and in the distance the fraser river gleams with light. Patches of water eddy around sand. The fraser river is at low tide and there isn’t much water in it right now.
Water. It took thousands of years of Earth evolution to create water. Water is a substance that led to the creation of animals. Without water life on earth is impossible.
Ever since the discovery of oil and the creation of plastic, human civilization has been throttling life on the planet. Completely non biodegradable, plastics are a direct path to death.
I wonder if this kind of death is what the old scriptures meant by ‘hell’. It truly will be hell like if the current production and consumption of plastics continue. It needs to be stopped.
But most people are in a zombie like state. If it isn’t happening in my lifetime than why do I care.
Few people actually believe in reincarnation and the fact that this is an auto repeat cycle of life and death. So the souls who deny global warming and the state of the planet will be the ones to suffer the most. They will come back. Put anyone on a hypnotists chair and ask them about their previous lives and most people will describe their experiences before this lifetime in great detail and if you regress a bunch of people who are friends, they will all have known each other from previous lifetimes. Maybe our minds make it up. Maybe its true. Maybe what is truly important is to know that at some level, this is how our mind works.
Even though this generation talks the most about global warming and climate change, previous generations lived in greater harmony with nature and with more respect for it. That’s how they lived, but their greed was the same as today’s generation. Except today’s generation doesn’t have access to the same resources as the older generation.
Our times have brought things to a head. Schizophrenic irresponsible plastic consumption on one side rivals with intense activism and fear about global warming on the other.
The combination of greed and fear is even worse for the planet. So, what do we do?
Reduce, recycle, reuse with greater vengeance. There is a great need for companies that can solve the waste management problem. We can be creative in what we do with the excess stuff that uncontrolled capitalism creates.
